Commonspace is a purveyor of inclusion and a curator of inspiration.
We create right sized and right priced urban apartments and working space, for a more social and more productive experience. We believe our differences make us unique, and our commonalities are the key ingredients for a community.
So, we create living and working spaces that cultivate a collective metropolitan experience while embracing the needs of the individual.

If you couldn’t tell…We love cities!
Urban centers are inherently optimistic, naturally diverse, full of all the things that allow us to embrace our quirky, weird, selves and then meet other people just as cool as us. Sure, cities are not always perfect, but they can often represent the best that humanity has to offer. The best restaurants, jobs, art and music scene, public spaces, diverse voices, innovation, and the constant opportunity for discovery. That vibrancy is contagious. We thrive on it and seek to promote it every chance we get.
How do you make a ‘neighborhood in a building’?
Commonspace is about helping people live fuller, more connected lives. A big part of creating an atmosphere where that is possible is creating that perfect mix of community space and privacy. Those who live and work in our properties benefit from thoughtfully curated spaces that both enable community and prioritize privacy. Because too much of a good thing, is a bad thing.
To achieve balance we had to rethink modern “apartment” living. In the typical model all of your daily living happens in the privacy of your unit. You only see other people in the lobby, the halls, the stairs, or the elevators.
Commonspace works more like a traditional village or town square. Everyone has their private space for sleeping, bathing, and secluding, but they spend a majority of their time in the centrally located public realm. As a result, they get to know their neighbors, they form friendships, and they develop a community.
At Commonspace we physically establish a comfortable transition from public to private where every space along the way creates opportunities for social exchange, but if you want to opt out and just be alone- you can totally do that too.
The Commonspace “ingredients” to getting it right.
Everything we do is founded on the belief that we all seek connection.
Every aspect of Commonspace is designed to facilitate and encourage community. From the physical layout, to signage, and prompts for gatherings. Each resident and member is given opportunities to connect with each other and Commonspace management. Our consistent message is that it is a safe and welcoming environment to engage with others.
Physical Space And Interior Design
Common areas are designed as points of congregation, not transitional spaces. The central kitchen is a popular location for after-hours hangouts and shared meals. The comfortable living room sectionals are arranged for a movie or game night. Common areas also feature chalk/marker boards for leaving friendly messages, updates, and silly drawings.
Private and Public Chat
Every tenant is given access to a mobile chat app called Slack where they can receive announcements and privately communicate with each other. It’s a perfect ice breaker for saying “hello” when they first move in, or to just put out a message asking for help carrying boxes. Slack channels frequently feature questions and answers, as well as pictures of the latest group outing. It also helps with accountability, ensuring everyone cleans up after themselves and remains a good neighbor.
Active Spaces
Commonspace creates an atmosphere where things can always be happening. We like to encourage our members and residents to take up the charge and organize gatherings that strike their fancy, but we also host events and get togethers to spark the social fires. A perennial favorite is the farm-to-fork dinner for residents, in which a local chef is brought into the space, uses the central kitchen to prepare a meal and the tenants have an opportunity to break bread together. This is a perfect opportunity for new tenants to introduce themselves, and for others to put faces to names. Tenants are also welcome to participate in all events, gatherings and seminars hosted by Commonspace Work.
On-site and Attentive Property Management
We are a super engaged owner/operator team. That means we are the ones touring the space, introducing you to people, solving problems, and making sure things are just right. Residents and members are able to manage their accounts, pay rent, and even submit maintenance requests 24/7 though their online tenant portal.
